But this transportation solved only half the problem. The ice would melt quickly and only some of the products would make it to the destinations. Hence a huge loss for the vendors and farmers. However the first on road refrigerated transport didn’t happened until the second world war. Fred Jones introduced the first portable refrigerator in 1935. The first prototypes were used in world war II particularly to help preserve food and blood serum. These refrigerated trucks used a mechanical cooling unit for a container mounted on a truck. For refrigerated transportation this was a break-through invention. Fred received a patent for it in 1940.

Moreover, Fred co founded Thermo king corporation which revolutionized the refrigerated transportation industry. Fred Jones held more then 60 patents during his lifetime with most of them pertaining to refrigeration.
